Describe your teaching position or role:
I teach exploratory computer science to all 7th graders in my building. I also teach an 8th grade elective called Coding, App & Game Design. I am the Girls Who Code adviser at my school too.
What 's your favorite CS concept or lesson to teach? Why?
I enjoy teaching my students about the planning phase which includes coming up with their idea, algorithm, and flowchart. It is fun to see how their ideas come to life.
What 's your favorite CS resource? Why?
Creative Coding in Python by Sheena Vaidyanathan. I attended a workshop that she hosted at the CSTA conference last summer in Phoenix. It is a book that is geared toward teaching middle school students Python. I am looking forward to incorporating some of these ideas into my 8th grade class this year.
Why did you join CSTA & CSTA Iowa?
I want to connect with other computer science teachers from across the state of Iowa. I hope we can share ideas and resources with each other.
